Were you speeding and is the car taxed and insured? If speeding then we know what the limits are and if we get caught then it's our fault. If the car is taxed and has an MOT then fine but if not then noboby else is to blame.

The van has to be marked and as far as I am aware cannot be plain. Same for the DVLA vans, they will always be marked

Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

If it was a manned police car and you were speeding then he has to stop you and issue a ticket. If you didn't get stopped then you wont get a ticket. If it is the police van with the 'staic' speed trap camera sticking out the back then it is an instant ticket if you were speeding, just like the speed cameras in the street. Again if you have no tax he would have stopped you.

I would say that your safe. This has happened to me pleanty of times.

    Hope this helps.

There are loads of processes in place for this to be automated now
The operator simply sits or can even stand near the vehicle
The equipment then simply records vehicles, the notices are then sent the following day by the relevant agency (Police, Safety Camera Partnership, VOSA, or DVLA)

To the best of my (albeit humble!) knowledge:

    - An officer holding a hand held device would need to stop you and issue the ticket - also don't forget he must have his hat on to do this !!!
    - Statics and vehicle mounted cameras must be distinctive (i.e. that reflective yellow or reflective chevrons on a vehicle).
    - A camera for anything else will likely not be for speeding.

If anyone is out on the road not taxed/MOT'd/insured - tough they've got it coming !!!!
