    Default Give Blood

    Just a seasonal reminder....

Christmas time is when the blood service really struggle for donors, so if you are due to give, or even fancy the idea of becoming a donor, then please help save lives over christmas by giving someone a priceless gift ..

9.30 am will see Mrs GSi and I at the mobile centre.. We've been regular donors since college days, But it was really brought home to me just how much you can change lives when my freinds wife had a 'botched' Caesarian and needed 14 pints in 2 hours..a day that will stay etched in my mind for years.

So, In Lucy's name.. Please, take a little time this weekend, and become a blood donor..

This is one thing I do on a regular basis I have given about 65 pints so far, hopefully it has saved a life or two.

This is exactly the reason which brought me to going. Mel, my girlfriend also had a caesarian which went wrong & also needed vasts amount of blood as she was bleeding internally which they couldn't fix. I was taken off to a room with a new brn baby not knowing what to think & was in pieces. Thankfully she fully recovered & is due to give birth again in March but heaven knows what would of happened if it wasn't for blood donors.
Is what I am suprised at though is I know it may not of been the best time to of suggested it to us & her family at the hospital about giving blood but personally I would giving what I could & would not of been offended.

Because of this I have been going to the centre in Luton when I can but to admit I haven't been for a while & at this time of year I suppose I should of made an effort. I kind of felt I done my bit but that's the wrong attitude I know as if you can spare the time it is certainly worth it & not to mention how good about yourself it makes you feel.
Could be my new years resolution
Mels aunty who goes often also was rushed in to the front of the que as there was a baby at the L&D hospital up the road that needed her blood as she was the only match in the centre at the time. Who could say no!!!

Hee Hee.. just 'recruited' Lucy's husband... off to pick him up then take him to the mobile centre at Dunstable......Can't be faffed with fighting into the library carpark in luton...

I'm also a 'baby pack' donor.. thats one reason why i go so often.. thinking about becoming a platelet donor as well.. but thats every 2 weeks..

Can't add anything else to what you've said Mark - it really is a priceless gift. I've also been doing it since college days. I think they'll want some more off me early next year as I only gave recently.

'fraid I'll never get Mrs Duncan to come along with me, she is not good with needles at all. Just seeing one makes her feel all , and if she hasn't keeled over then it's !!!

My missus did keel over. This was when she was at Nursing College.

Still I only mention it three or four times a month now.

No, I won't, because the NBS have decided that becuase I had a transfusion, I now am a greater risk of having / carrying / giving to someone else CJD!!!

How I'm more of a risk than before is beyond me, as they don't / can't test for CJD anyway!!!

I'm a regular donor too and have been doing it for ten years now. I used to watch my mum do it when I was a kid. My mates missus had a caesarian and decided to come along to the next one. He fainted mind so wont be going again, but at least he gave it a go!

This is another thing I have been meaning to do for the past 15 yrs, trouble for me is they hold clinics at set times, I need to be driving by and think, hey! I got time to pop in and have vein o' suction.

I'd hand, or arm over on a reg basis then.
