Default Towbar wiring - dedicated or just splice in?

What are your recommendations chaps for towbar wiring for hatch, dedicated or chop in to the current wires?

Obviously dedicated is neater and no doubt quicker but are there any other advantages?

I'm aware its quite a few £ for a kit

Also does it need anything activated via tech2 to work?

    Cheers

I beleive you will need proper modules otherwise the canbus system will go crazy! Mine has some fancy relay/module installed and I do not get bulb warnings up, altthough it is a bit quirky, when you cancel the indicators, it will flah the other side briefy after about 6 seconds?

Just bought one off e bay it comes with a module and plug in harness, not fitted yet but will need extra wiring for caravan wiring.

My Astra had the dedicated wiring kit it plugged in.

Must be better idea, but i had to have the system switched on hope the vectra is not the same.!!

No it doesn't always need tech 2 - I got the proper Vx loom and it just worked straight away. If you splice into the existing wires it may well mess up the bulb failure warning system - you can get relays to prevent that. If you want the safe option, or think you might want to take it all off again anytime the correct loom is easiest.

Spliced mine into existing wiring very tidy finish. To avoid canbus fault use indicators as normal, Tail lights spliced into number plate lamp and brake lights into 3rd tailgate brake lamp (cost 1 hour of my time locating cables and scotchclipping)

get the proper plug in loom and module it is by far the best option, the 2 i have fitted worked straight on the car and tech 2 is only needed to activate trailer check control (bulb failure for the trailer) and the legally required lamp light on the dash when you have a trailer connected and indicate (the law requires either a dash light or buzzer, much prefer the light )

Okay, so it seems the dedicated wiring is the way to go.

Is this one ok for a 54-plate hatch with full canbus?
