That sounds like it to me, most cars now a days have hydrolic tappets, they seem to do it more when the weather is colder, as long as the noise goes away after a few seconds it should be ok. my neighbour has a BMW and that "rattles" from cold.

Yeah, mine too Bevis, I think it's the cold doing it, are you using 5/30 or 10/40?

yeah I've noticed mine sounding like a big 'ol tractor in the morning too. ... I set off immediately after I started the engine last week and wow was it loud ... quite worried I pulled in again and switched off then on again, paused a second or two this time before setting off and it was ok!

now it's colder the oil is harder so suck up and pump round...so noisy top ends are more common..colder mornings also make the noise more apparent... my GSi taps like a swine for about 5 seconds...so i'm going to get some slick50 for mine.... cut down the wear in the oilless moments.

sounds like a good idea with the slick50 might save a bit of trouble later down the line

Slick 50, I have used this before in previous motors, But I thought VX do not recomend putting in additives, as it might affect the propoties of the oil?.

Mark, I gotta another niggle, I'm getting a small misfire on throttle rundown at certain lowish speeds, any ideas what might be causing it mate?

    2.0 dti

Almost like a surge, as if the throttles not keeping up with my foot, and only for a moment.

    Cheers.

In other cars i've owned i've used Magnatec oil as it is supposed to help reduce wear in this type of situation. I haven't put it in the vec yet.

you want to make it worse

slick 50 is not safe and you have no need for oil additives
