    Default Blanking EGR valve

What is this?? By blanking it or putting a plate on it does that not effect the egr valve function? Can anyone do this because i think my egr is playing up!

    regards

    Mo

The EGR controls flow of exhaust gas back into the inlet manifold so it can have a second chance at being burnt and hence reducing NOx emissions. So, all the valve does is turn on and off to either allow exhaust gas out of the exhaust as normal, or recirculate for re-burn.
Blanking this valve, which simply means putting a blockage in the recirculation pipe, prevents the exhaust gas from being returned to the inlet manifold so basically renders the EGR useless. Doing this causes the ECU to throw up an engine management light, followed by an emissions light, but doesn't actually cause any problems. In fact many would suggest it significantly improves performance at low revs and prevents the inlet manifold from clogging up with sludge.
Anyway, what makes you think your EGR is playing up? They are fairly simple to clean out if necessary - no need to go buying a new one. There are How2s on this site to explain. If you post your symptoms, there will be plenty who can advise.

    Thanks for this. Makes sense.

Well my engine management light is on (amber colour). The car does not seem to pull at all..no injection at all it seems.....but drives ok. People have been saying its the EGR valve. I have done a little reading on this forum and that seems to be the most common sympton. Will have a look at the HOW 2 section and see if i can find it. May have a go but scared I wont be able to do it.

    Lets see

    Cheers
