    Default Dashboard dead help!!!!!

Started the carthis morning to find the instrument display was almost completely dead. So mostof the lights don’t work, rev counter doesn’t work, Speedo doesn’t work, temp gaugedoesn’t work, fuel gauge doesn’t work, etc.

When I turn the key the engine light comes on and then goes off when the enginestarts and the "door open" light stays on all the time.

    Its a vectra 2006 sri 1.9CDTI.

As some of the lights work was wondering if this is something major! Help assoon as possible please.

    Not so uncommon..
    So first things to check:
There are two fuses- and I cant remember the numbers - that you need to remove and clean... Memory is telling me 17 and 23 but im not 100%, will check for you.
Remove and clean the main ABS multiplug under the bonnet. Use ONLY contact cleaner, not WD40 as that leaves a film.
Remove and clean (same as above) the multiplug on the back of the CIM module.

If that doesnt work its likely to be a CIM failure but the above has been known to fix this many times.

Ok - so its fuses 17 and 26.. Check these and replace TBH - better than trying to clean etc.

When it once happened to me, I pressed the trip reset button and the dash came back to life.

Mileage was approx 5 miles less than the stereo trip computer reading though.

Fuses 17 and 26 are for the infotainment system display

Fuse 12 is for the battery overload / over-voltage relay... very common failure, however you would normally lose interior lights.

Fuse 10 is for the CIM itself

Beyond here you would need to check 3 modules.

First the ABS connector - it is prone to corroded / dirty pins on pre-facelift Vectra's.

Then check that all steering collumn earths are clean and secure.

Finally - I would recommend a diagnostic check, to confirm that the CIM (collumn integrated module) or the ECM (Engine Control Module) have not gone belly up.

The tell tale for the ECM, is that it will NOT communicate with the diagnostic tool. You would need Tech 2, Op-Com or Vauxcom to verify if there are any module specific trouble codes and which modules are communicating.

Oh - and if diagnostic does not give any joy, then check the connector on the circuit board of the instrument panel for dry solder joints. Also not uncommon for instrument only problems.

Exactly what happened to me about 6 months ago! Drove around with dead dash all day worrying how much a new cim and programming was gonna cost, then for some reason I just poked the trip button and... Bingo! -Back to normal . Never happened again.

    Same happened to me.
I disconnected +12V from battery for 5-10mins, then everything was back to normal.
Did'nt try the trip button though.
