Default 2.2 direct fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator

im thinking about getting a 2.2 direct sri but put off by all these horror stories about the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator failing. how common is this fault?? does this happen to evey single one of them?? and would i be able to put a performance fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator on to stop this happening? also would it be easy enough to do or would it need other mods too?

    Hi mate.

I drive a 2.2 direct SRi. It has had the FPR replaced under the Vx recall and has the improved continental pump on it.

Touch wood, it runs just fine and for the money they are exchanging hands for you can't go wrong even if you do have to shell out for these 'Achilles heel' potential problems with this engine.

Make sure the one you buy has had the FPR done and has the improved pump on it, if it doesn't then use this as a bargaining chip to drive the price down and get it done yourself, then you can enjoy your car.

There are hundreds of threads on this site about problems with all variants of the vectra, that is one of the reasons this site is here.

I agree this engine has its known issues, as do all other engines, but at least knowing about the problem lets you do something about it and at the end of the day it is relatively cheap and very easy to fix.

The threads did not put me off buying this engine variant and I enjoy the car very much.

Of course my stance is biased but as I have said I love my 2.2 direct. LOL.
