Been having lumpy cold start ups and a smell of diesel when I put the interior fan on.
Do you think this is the culprit?
Could anyone identify what this hose is for?
It is at the front right hand side of the engine
Thanks

.....and which engine is that?
Looks like a CDTi 150 engine. The pipe arrowed is a coolant pipe I think.
As for lumpy cold satrts and smell of diesel, I'd be checking the swirl bar, may have fallen off
Sorry yes it is the 1.9cdti 150, there is all black oily crud around the pipe like it's been leaking.
Checked the swirl bar and still seems to be attached
Is there any oily deposits around the swirl pots? Could be one of the valves leaking a little. Does the swirl bar move when revved? (will need a friend to check while you rev it).
Re the pipe in your pic, Mine looks identical to yours, and there's no diesel smell or lumpy cold starts.
May be worth cleaning the EGR and boost sensor too, and checking the vac pipes for splits. May help with the cold starts.
no carbon around the swirl bar. Just had another look, the pipe is the one that goes from the engine block to th oil seperator. I blanked off my EGR hoping it would sort the lumpy start ups to no success.
Got another black pipe to the right of the engine with black oil all over it and it has sprayed it all over the engine block.
Gonna take them all off some time next week and give em a check over and a clean and put them back on with jubilee clips nice and tight!
Thanks for your time
That looks like the coolant pipe from the thermostat to me. There shouldn't be any oil there. Is there any trace of oil in your expansion tank?
