Default Car tax, the robbing bar stewards!

Looking at taxing my 2.0 turbo soon which is 270 quid a year, a massive waste of money in itself, but paying for 6 months is £148.50 which is £297 if you tax it twice a year to help your cash flow!

So not only do the robbing gits take money for effectively nothing, they screw you over if you try and split it which is what I used to do when I wanted to spread the cost, but not for nearly £30 more!

It's always been an extra 10% if you only go for 6 months

    It's a tax, pay it...
If you don't want to pay it, thinking it is too much, then look at a different car with a lower tax rate

I always knew mine was a higher tax rate, so no complaining here
I pay a higher RFL and more taxes on the fuel due to the lower MPG, higher wear and tear, etc

I didn't buy this car to save tax...

Wow never thought anyone would stand up for car tax....

Its not the tax, it's the surcharge for splitting it, which hits people who are trying to budget. I knew it was 260 (270 now) when I bought mine but the surcharge can't be justified really.

I completely agree with the RFL, didn't say I agree with the amount

The option is there, so you pay the extra for it
It makes the handing charges / cost more transparent

I pay annually until a car is 4 years old, then 6 monthly thereafter as the vehicle may not last the whole year!

Handling charges? The dvla only exists to serve itself so they're making extra money out of those who can afford it less. The cost of that scrap of paper probably only covers staffing costs. Ditch the dvla for the waste of space they are and all rfl goes on the fuel, the fairest system there is!
