    Default Overheating engine/ cold radiator

    Hi,
    Car:Vectra 1.9cdti (2006)
Friday the temp gauge soared into the red, so I switched off.
On further inspection, I have found the following:

    Temp gauge still rising.
Coolant levels good & system pressurised.
    No coolant in oil.
Radiator fans operating at correct temperatures.
    Radiator staying COLD throughout.
    Thermostat housing hot.

Done a search on this, so I'm thinking thermostat stuck closed.....
    Any ideas???

    Regards, DEE

Coolant returning to the header tank when running? There should be from the thin bypass pipe, if not might be a failed water pump.

Looks like the thermostat as you say is stuck closed or the water pump is goosed but you say its pressurised they normally fail open hence the numerous threads here about engines not heating up don't run it change the stat

    Default

Turned out to be the water pump.
The bond between the spindle & impellor had failed, resulting in no drive to the impellor.
    Cheers, DEE
