    Default Non-starter

I have a Cdti 120 manual which has been fine till late last night when I parked up for a few minutes and switched off. When I tried to start it I got nothing! ...No click from starter motor, all lights on dash were lit as normal and they didn't even dim when I turned the key as you would expect if starter motor was stuck. I managed to roll backwards down the hill and it bump started in reverse no problem. Tried starting it many times since and still nothing when I turn the key but bump starts no problem.
    Any ideas you knowledgeable lot??

Happened on my old 120. Turned out to be the crank shaft sensor.

Just been out to check it and it started first time! Switched off and it's back to not starting again
However, after plugging in the laptop, I have a fault code ...

Seems to be an intermittent problem now (starts about once in every 30 attempts)
Definitely appears to be ignition switch or key problem and car only came with one key so I can't try the spare

Have you tried jumping the starter directly to the battery to see if the starter spins? (make sure it's in neutral!)

Sounds like an issue with the starter, or the relay sticking.

No Tony, I've not looked at the starter motor as the fault code for the ignition switch has led me to think it's more key related. Tbh the key is quite worn compared to the 2 keys I have for the old vectra so maybe something inside the key is not making proper contact.

    Usually a key problem.

I replaced the key battery earlier then tried to start car. Wouldn't start. After about 20 turns of the key it suddenly turned over and started. Switched off, tried again... nothing! 10 more turns of the key and it started. Left if for an hour or two then went out to go to work and it started first time. Since then it's started first turn of the key every time!
Next time it won't turn over I will get someone to turn the key while I check for any voltage to the starter motor so I can rule that out.
Thanks for the replies, I think this is going to be one of those annoying faults that come and go but at least I have a fault code to work from.

Can you hear any relays clicking when you turn the key to the start position?
