Default Correct tyre size on 18's?

I've just seen a veccy in the supermarket carpark (very tidy) but i noticed something strange about the wheels. They were 18" XP2's but they looked huge! Upon closer inspection the tires were 215/45/R18. Mine are 215/40/R18 and look crap in comparrison. Which is correct? If it's the 40's then is it possible to get the speedo/ BC re-calibrated to compensate for the longer circumference?

I had 235/40/18's on my old Vec, but those were the closest match for the stock 235/35/19's the car came with, Im sure you can get speedo set to suit..

So, all the online tyre checker places are suggesting 225/40/18. Am i right in thinking that the 225 part would depend on what wheel was fitted?

    225 45 18 are te standard factory size I have 235 40 18.

215 would be a narrow tyre which I'm guessing would have some stretch in it as they are narrower?

I'm confident about the fit but i like the look of the 45's, just concerned about the speedo/ BC accuracy. If the ones i have on currently are the wrong size though the speedo will already be inaccurate.

They won't be far off the standard reading to be fair. But surely you want a wider footing for that bit of extra grip? Try 235 40 18 mate here's mine in that size.
