Fairly similar to the Vectra in terms of faults
Just compare the warranty terms to see how little Ford are confident in their own cars

Yes, the Mondeo looks very nice
However getting Ford to actually perform warranty work is a nightmare (compared to VX)

My 2003 TDCI lost a valve which destroyed the engine and I was without the car for nearly four months whilst the dealership and Ford argued over who should cover the costs
Ford wanted the engine for diagnotics, the dealership didn't want to cover the cost
I eventually managed to obtain the report from the Ford representative that inspected the car; it was damning of both the car and previous warranty work that had been carried out

A mate of mine has that exact model you describe (09 2.0 tcdi titanium). It's just popped the engine at 29,000 miles.

    Looks like the crankshaft snapped....

Had a full dealer history. It's just over 3 years old and Ford won't contribute to any costs to replace the engine (which is what they reckon it needs)...

Tony the cam chains jump which then punches the valve into the head rather than bending them and snaps the camshaft and normally the cam carrier too.

The can carrier is matched to the head so then needs a new head.

We have had quite a few like this.

It's his crankshaft that's snapped mate. They've not mentioned any top end damage, yet.

Just that his whole engine needs replacing....

That's a shame, mine went just a few weeks before it's first MoT
I had the same argument, but as soon as I mentioned it had not yet had it's first MoT (less than 3 years old) they changed their tune and started bending over backwards to help

There was some concerns over the high mileage, but when they reviewed the service history they did not have any issues
The dealership advised the warranty had expired at 60K miles, but Ford returned that even with 120K miles it had been fully serviced as per OE requirement (and by the same dealership throughout)

Equally, you would expect an engine to last up to 6 years (5 years in Scotland) before suffering catastrophic failure
Keep on them, obtain a copy of the report in writing

vx and ford are about on par for reliability. all have more than their fair share of major failures.
one sure thing -- modern cars are definitely more problematic than the good old 90s models.
how many years ford warranty does the mk4 have

the typical warranty is 2 (or 3 years extended), so it'll probably be expired now.
like all modern diesels i'd pay particular attention to the DMF.
