    Default Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just tried to drive through the floods to get home and pushed my luck too far. The engine cut out in the middle of a large puddle after the bow wave came up over the bonnet. It cut out straight away and wouldnt start again after that.
Ive got towed home by a friendly 4x4 owner and left it to dry.

What am I best to do next?

Take the plugs out and turn it over. DO NOT Try to start it with the plugs in. You will see water fly out of the holes if you have hydraulic the engine.

Used to happen quite a bit in my Land Rover days, no big deal, plugs out, crank it until water stops flying, let it dry, plugs in, oil change job done.

    EDIT:
Remove ALL the plugs, not one cylinder at a time!

I could give you a hand Ben take the air box lid off and see if the filter is wet if it is take out the glow plugs for each cylinder and turn the engine over to remove any water from the cylinders.

As above - more difficult being a diesel ie glowplugs as opposed to sparkplugs - could it be an insurance claim if not easily sorted yourself. Exactly the same happened to me a few years ago - I was driving very steadily through flood water with no problems until a HGV coming the opposite way too fast and the bow wave he created went over the bonnet of mine swamping the engine. I was towed home left to stand over night and it started first time next morning but had to change air filter and oil.
    Good luck with yours

Try turning it over by hand first.

Because of if it has locked then chance of bending con rods etc.

I don't see why removing the glow plugs would be any more difficult than removing the spark plugs though. They still have access directly to the cylinders and removing them would allow the engine to be cranked, slowly at first... as suggested maybe a hand crank at first.
