Default RAC onward travel - TV advert

Stuff that RAC, there is no way I want the roadside assistant pushing me all the way home...

I'm sorry but that is just a cop-out, seems they don't want to fix cars either!

My daughter broke down 120 miles away from home. RAC arrived, quick coat of looking at, then arranged to have her car transported to her home. Seven hours later and 2 changes of transporter (because the drivers only work within 'their own area') she arrived home. What a joke!!!!

I would much rather pay an extra £50 for "roadside repair" with parts up to £250 included
Supplying a replacement car is just renaming an existing option

You don't need to stay with the car, there are loads of options
You can stay in a local hotel with a replacement car the next day to complete your journey
You can be taken to the nearest rail station, take a train to complete your journey (claim the rail fare back)
Oddly, you cannot be taken to the nearest airport and take a plane, which would be more practical for some journeys

Agreed, they just don't seem to want to actually carry out a repair
Each time I have had to call out a recovery agent, I have had to instruct them what to do...

    Failed tyre
Mechanic looks in the boot, "er where is the spare?"

    Blocked SCV
Mechanic starts the engine, "Sounds fine to me"
So takes him for a short drive and back to his van, "Hmm, you're right there is something wrong, it might be the brakes"

    Failed DMF taking the clutch
Phoned up to arrange uplift of car and onward transport for myself to get home
"Yes, I can take the car to [dealership] for you, but that's then the end of my shift, so can drop you off at our depot"
The following day AA phoned to advise the car was ready for collection!
Advised them I was sending in the receipt for the rail journey, "What you had to make your own way home?"

I had a similar problem with them when I broke down in an old E28 Bmw outside Stockport on my way to Telford. I sent my wife on home as she was a diabetic and needed food and meds. Took about 8 phone calls and 4-5 hpurs before a low loader arrived. I had explained at start it was overheating, I checked under bonnet and a pipe had broken off, with the stub, from overflow bottle, not a side of the road fix. Still they sent a patrol out in case I was an idiot. He took one look, confirmed it was beyond him then I went in queue for low loader. When it did finally arrive, the driver spent the whole journey moaning how he needed to get home as his father had filled his diesel car with petrol and I was taking him in the wrong direction, as if I'd done it on purpose.
