Wont rev over 3000rpm

Had my vectra for about 5 months and had no problems. Sold it to my friend 2 weeks ago and it just sat there for ages. Last week started it and revved it and it was fine. Now he took it to work and half way there he suddenly wont rev over 3000rpm. Any ideas?

I'm guessing the yellow spanner light is on? If so, will need to get the codes read

Does it go into limp mode if you keep trying to push it past this? I had a similar problem a while back on my 3.0 V6 CDti - it was air in the fuel filter housing - it must have bled itself as it cleared itself in a couple of days and is fine now.

Very high chance that a boost pipe has come off (probably down by the intercooler) or a bost pipe has split.
