Default plastic sleeves on front springs

How important are the plastic sleeves that go on the bottom of the front springs?

I've just had new OE springs fitted at my local garage and they haven't fitted any plastic sleeves. Should I go back and complain or not bother?

If there's no twanging noise, you don't need them (yet).

My mechanic removed the sleeve before fitting my new spring, but the grinding noise was terrible so he came back a week later and put the sleeve on and it was as quiet as a mouse
