Default Signum 1.8 petrol, z18 engine not vvt

Hi, having read a lot of posts on cambelt, water pump change and as my water pump is leaking, I think it is the pump as i have to top up every 3/4 weeks and there is water drops on garage floor under pump. Some say that the pump may sieze shredding the belt but when i look at mine the water pump is at the front of the engine and is bigger than the alternater, not the size i was expecting and it is driven by a grooved belt which also drives the alternator. I think mine is a diff, set-up as when i look at kits on ebay, water pump and belts the pump has a gear wheel , is much smaller than mine. I have 54k on clock. 55 reg, facelift model. ty.

If its the same as my Z18XE astra then you cant see the waterpump as its behind the cover, it will have a gear wheel and be driven by the toothed belt.

Could that be the aircon compressor your looking at think thats driven by a grooved belt and not a toothed one,as said above on my old vec B with the same engine water pump was under the cover, just a thought.

Yea it is the AC pump, there will be 2 silver aluminium pipes coming off it. The water pump on the z18xe is run off the timing belt and it is behind timing belt cover. Considering the mileage and the year of your car its requires the belt and tensioners changing now too.

2 alumin. pipes coming off is the clue, it does have so is a/c unit. Ty all for your help, is this beyond a reasonably skilled diy chap. As I have seen belts and pump on ebay for just over £100

Thats reasonable. VX are doing fixed price timing belt change for £249, so for less your getting water pump and antifreeze changed too.

Just do it yourself. Not hard to do at all. Worst bit can be getting water pump out as that little o ring don't half hold in well at times. I split my pump open on my old vectra I was hitting it so hard to get it free. If you have never done it before but feel you could do it set aside a day and just plod on at it and save yourself lots of money. Also if it's leaking coolant onto the belt you are running the risk of it snapping as cam belts do not like coolant or oil contamination. You have been warned!!
