Default Vec 57 - Front and rear passenger foot well damp!

A few months ago i noticed the front passenger foot well was damp. I put this down to the missus or little one spilling a drink and forgot all about it. However, after putting the car through a car wash at the weekend i noticed both the passenger front and rear foot wells was soaked. I used a vax to suck up the water and left the car in the garage over night with the doors open to dry passenger carptets out. Then I hosed the passenger side of the car for approx. 10 minutes. After that i checked the door seals which were fine and the carpets were still dry too. Next i hosed down the entire car and chucked half a dosen buckets of water over it. I'm thinking the water is coming in from the front or rear of the car and eventually seeps down to the the footwell when the car is moving. So I took it out for a quick 10 minutes drive and surely enough the front foot well was completely soaked through again. After a few hours i also found rear was slightly damp too! I've only had the car 7 months which i bought from a small dealer who included a extended warranty/care plan (somthing similar to AA insurance i think). I've just given these guys a call and suprise, suprise the warranty doesnt cover water ingress!

Anyone know what the cause could be and is there any basic things i could try to resolve it before i paying out a fortune to a local garage?

    your not the only one

    here is someone elses post

Cleaned mine the other day (cos the front passenger well was deep in water!). Took off the thick rubber strip that runs across the engine compartment - and lifted the pollen filter flap - to discover a pool of water. I poked a stick down the drain rubber - and got wet feet with the gush of water. I bought a new pollen filter and replaced. Whilst there - I decided to check the driver's side drain. Not so easy! I prised up the scuttle tray and stuck the handle of a large screwdriver under it to keep it up. The drain rubber is under the wiper mechanism. I cleared it with one of those flexi-tools that are used to pick up items that you drop in the engine bay (only a few quid and very useful!). It was partially blocked, and with a lot of gunk being dislodged. My car is 3 years old and it's the first time I've had to do this.

Make sure your heater fan is still working, when the water flows thru the air intake it blows the resistor pack. The normal fault is the fan won't work on settings 1,2 or 3 but works on setting 4.

I had a similar problem, used a vax to hoover as much water out as possible and then lined the floor with old towels to soak up the rest, it took a few weeks but is fine now. Febreeze sorted the smell out.

Check the rear wheel well also as the water in the back could be the result of the rear roof rail rivits or the aerial base letting watter in...

I had to mastic seak my aerial and rivits and its made all the difference with water comming in!
