Incorrect reg on MOT certificate

Hi all,

Just bought a car which was advertised with 11 months MOT.

However, come to tax it and the reg isn't correct on the MOT certificate. There is a V where there should be a U.

Does anyone know if this is a genuine mistake and how this could of got through the system as the chassis relates as does mileage etc.

OR is this something to be worried about??

I'd be worried about it, as it was from a dealer I wouldnt be too worried about it being a cloned car (was it a VX main dealer) but I'd be worried about the insurance implications

I would go back to the dealer and get him to sort it out
Do all the details on the V5C check out with the vehicle

Take it back to the dealer, you bought the car with 11 months mot but your car has none so they need to rectify their mistake

Take it back to the dealer as the mot tester is the one who needs their eyes checking and their computer skills as its not like the u n v are close on the keyboard

Agreed, straight back to the dealer
If they advise they will correct it immediately, that is fine
However if they need some time, then this will leave you without a car (no MoT until it is replaced), so make sure they offer a courtesy car
If they advise you take the car away whilst they correct the issue, they would be breaching the law and you should phone the Police whilst on their premises

Should be easy enough to rectify within an hour, if the dealership is the same as the MoT tester
I had it on a previous MoT where the car colour was Gold, but I pointed out the car colour was Silver (from the V5), so they had to replace it whilst still on their premises

cheers all, i'm surprised that it could be a genuine mistake as mechanics have to do all test online. Maybe an MOT tester could shed some light on this?

An MOT test can correct me if I'm wrong but do they not have to test the car again just to get a print out? I remember I lost the certificate for a car I had years ago, and I needed the certificate for something. They needed to re-test the car - so they told me. Not that it makes a difference as it's their mistake in this instance.

If it was your car that was tested and it passed the Mot - its only a clerical error on the certificate - this doesn't mean the car has suddenly become unroadworthy - its only a piece of paper. I'm sure they will sort it out - as for ringing the Police when you get there............ Consider going to them if you discover it is a phoney document.

You could always get a duplicate from the garage that issued the original - although they would charge you for it
