    Default Z18XER Minus AirCon

    Hi Guys,

According to my Haynes Manuel there is a version of my car without the aircon.

Anyone know the Part number for the fan belt for this engine?

I'd like to remove it, because it doesn't work (No Gas) and there would be some free Horses and a Weight saving too once all the pipework and compressor has been removed.

    Matt

A Vectra with a non-functioning A/C system is worth considerably more at resale time than a Vectra where all the A/C components have been removed.

This is very true. That is why I keep all the OEM parts/bolts in a box in my garage.
Though mainly because I might change my mind and decide to refit the OEM "for a change"!

I just want to try it...

I understand that modern air con systems use very litttle power?

Measure the new run with a piece of string?? Then get a slightly smaller belt.

I just thought that maybe I could get the VX part for pennies as a test then if I like it I can remove the compressor etc, and if I don't or there is no difference, I can just put the correct belt back on.

As Haynes seem to think there is an engine without AirCon I figured there would a a VX Fan Belt for it.

Part number 55350420. There's no guarantee that your car minus the A/C compressor pulley would have the same belt routing as the XER that never had A/C though.

There never has been a Vectra-C without aircon AFAIK, and certainly not for the UK or for Opel's European Market.

You never know what weird versions they sold in other markets though, perhaps in Israel or somewhere else. If you ask people if there was ever a 1.6 Vectra they'll say no, but they sold such a car in Ireland.

But if the button is still there then who's going to know the difference.......

And Matt... I reckon you may get 1hp extra tops and save about 10kg's in weight.... may as well take the spare wheel out!
