    Default Vectra out, Insignia in!

Vauxhall is planning to get rid of the Vectra name in an effort to give its big-selling family car a fresher image......

I normally take what Auto Express print with a pinch of salt, but to be honest I can see why GM want to re-brand the Vectra as it's had a proper slating in the media; especially when the pre-facelift Vec B was launched.

I think branding it Insignia will be good for GM in the same vain as going from Cavalier to Vectra was.

As Alex, I also take with a pinch of salt what AE say but if it's true I can understand why. The Vectra name has had a bit of a 'stigma' over the years.

Somebody not too long ago, I recall, when they got dinked by somebody in a car park posted that the person said "Oh, it's only a Vectra' as if it's some sort of second-class car!!

Not sure about Insignia though I must say - all think of when I hear that is an old brand of mens' toiletries!!

Given this "The production-ready model will be on display at the Paris expo later that year, and is due to go on sale in the UK early in 2009" looks like the C will be around for a bit longer then!

If it is true, looks like we won't be needing those Vectra D domain names then!!

The C is such as different and better car than the vec b that I have always wondered why they didn't change the name when the C was launched.

I think the C was misnamed as well, as imo it is more of an omega replacement than vectra one.

I agree, there must be thousands of people out there who wouldn't consider a vectra purely from what people like JC has said about the old one.

If they all drove a vectra c/signum they would see total enlightenment LMAO

I agree. The last generation Cavalier was known as the Vectra in Europe, so when we got the "new" Vectra B, the expectation was set too high - in many ways it was an updated Cavalier.

Then we get a totally new car, Vectra C, and call it Vectra again.

    ???

They've been called Vectra's over here since the late 80's. Its certainly overdue a name change. As I said in a previous thread the Vectra is very badly thought of since the 96 model and its infamous timing belt failures. My brothers suffered this problem.

The demise of Opel in Ireland has been shocking. Going from the biggest seller to not even featuring in the top 10. This demise was purely down to the Vectra's problems. In the early 90's nearly every car on the road was an Opel...nowadays it seems the ****** Bentley Continental is the most popular

Theres only a 2 year warranty on Opels and that had to forced upon them by the EU. They can't compete with the Japanese 3 year warranties and now the Koreans 7 year.

Lets hope the new model does the business as it really is their last chance. This will be probably my last vectra both due to the various recurring problems but also due to the fact that nobody wants them and trdae-in values are shocking

I have to say, it looks like Auto Express may have got something right for once, from what I have been told, the Vectra name will almost certianly go, but Insignia has not been confirmed, but then again, what ever the name is, a manufacturer will not release the name 2 years before launch!!
