Tuning a 1.9CDTi Vectra Estate???

My vectra is a 54 plate with low mileage and I'm planning on keeping it a while. The car runs ok & is regularly serviced but it is really noisy when running.
My question is this, is it possible to have the car tuned and and have the noise reduced due to being performance optimised?
I remember getting an old car tuned years ago and the engine noise was greatly reduced, granted this was a petrol car.
Can anyone recommend someone in the north east nr Middlesbrough for this kind of work?
Any advice appreciated...

Diesels are generally noisy, are you using the correct oil and grade? Check that all the sound proofing is there, undertray etc. There is also a Saab modification that you can do to the CDTI engine cover that reduces it a fair bit, there is a How2 listed in the section.

I am aware that diesel engines are noisy but I'm still not convinced they should be as noisy as mine is. I have friends who have diesel cars of similar age that are a lot less noisy! Yeah I'm using the correct vauxhall recommended oil. Dont know about the Saab mod, do you have a link to how2?

Just out of curiosity, does it have the sound proofing on the underside of the bonnet?

No it doesn't, that is something I have been looking into over the weekend. Would you recommend it - will it make that much difference?

Sorry, misread! Yes there is a piece of material on the u/s of the bonnet but there is no insulator material on the top of the engine block under the plastic cover...

Its not suppose to have any insulation under the plastic cover.

According to what I have read over the weekend you can get a genuine GM part that fits over the engine block (under the plastic cover)...... See earlier post in this thread..
