Default Going to look at my first VX tomorrow - an 05 CDTI 1.9 150 SRI

Hi all, just joined last few days. Been researching Vectra`s this past few weeks and decided on the 1.9 CDTI. I need an economical car for work - hoping for around 50mpg combined with this model, and these look great and fun to drive too. After trawling thru Autotrader, Ebay, Pistonheads etc have shortlisted a few and off to see one tomorrow. An 05 SRI with low miles. Its had the swirl flaps and EGR valves done already, but not the timing belt, so if i buy I believe i better get that sorted right quick as it seems to be overdue? Anyone know avge prices from dealers and/or indpendents for a cam belt change? Many great threads on this forum, as a beginner in the VX world I`ve been amazed at the amount of good info. Other car is a Mustang so well versed in car clubs, forums and petrolheads...altho this will be my first diesel lol...any advice for a newbie ? Things I should ask or watch out for? Its a private seller. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. Ask to see the reciepts for the swirl valve replacement, as this can only be achieved by fitting a new manifold. Cambelt is due at 10 years or 100k but get it done along with the water pump, better safe than sorry. Listen for any metallic sounds at idle from the flywheel area. This will be the dual mass flywheel, expensive to fix, £600 to £1000 depending on where you hve it done. Check the service history and generally see how the car feels to drive, then post up pics should you buy, oh and a pic of the Mustang would be nice, love those.

Whey-heh! Paid a deposit on my new VX and picking up in a few days. Got a 1.9 CDTI SRI 150 (2005) Black with matt black wrapped front grill, debadged and matt blk rear wrapped boot strip, new inlet manifold, egr valve, upgraded boost pipes, new springs, pads, brake pipes, and new rubber. 68k miles, full VX SH. Also has a bluespark tuning box for increased BHP and MPG. Very happy with the purchase, the previous owner really went to to town on the car and has taken care of it. Its immaculate. Pics to follow! Thx for your advice all.
