Default glow plugs cost - urgent advice please

after being in the garage for 7 weeks getting a new head, the VX dealer now tells me I need a new set of glow plugs, original cost over £100, as a good will gesture has reduced this to 70 something quid, but this still seems like a hell of a lot just for 4 plugs and fitting....what do you think?

if it includes fitting, then it's a good price for a dealer. If that's just for the plugs,NGK plugs would be cheaper from a factors.

Depending on your chassis number, the Vauxhall Trade Club price for supply only is either £11.10+VAT or £9.87+VAT for each one.

right, the dealership aren't budging on making me pay, so I have 2 questions for the Vec-C community:

!) what are the best plugs to go for (just OEM ones will be fine), and where can I get them/how much (my local motor factors don't appear to stock any for my car
    2) I have average to good spanner skills, is changing the glow plugs something I can do myself?

I'm already spending over £200 getting cam belt kit and AC regassed, so now just trying to reduce my spend as much as I can

I have for many years just replaced the faulty plug as & when required not a full set & had no probs, I have found however using cheap one's isn't always a good idea, The last ones i did had ngk from new, i replaced them with some none big name brand & they were no where near as good, In fact i ended up changing back to ngk's again, When tested out of the car they were taking upto 11 sec's to heat fully compared to 6 for the ngk's, So £70 i think you said for 6 plugs (if there brand name) fitted is not bad.

    I bought these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1808535440...84.m1439.l2649

I must stress they were for my CDTi 150 Signum, but obviously check if it's the same fitment for the 120 engine.

I have the tool to remove the glowplugs, it's just a deep socket really and just like removing spark plugs, easy.

Don't know whether access is as easy on the 120 as it is on the 150, someone else may be able to tell you that.

EDIT.......Read this thread, seems like it's a tad more involved on the 120

Thanks for the advice guys, seeing as it looks like a bit of a nightmare on the 120, think I'll let the dealer do it as they've already got the engine in pieces
