Default Sold the Astra VXR. How to get paid?

    Hi all,

I think I have sold my Astra VXR for a rather princely sum which I am very pleased with.

The guy that has bought it is a sole trader dealer who buys and sells cars allot. He is happy to pay a deposit and also pay me via bank transfer for the outstanding balance. He has assured me the funds will be in my account cleared before the car is collected / driven away etc. I have all his contact details etc. and have spoken with him in person. He seems legit etc. He also wants to do this during banking hours to ensure the cash is there etc which he says I can verify.

Now, I know I am being paranoid but does this all sound safe enough? I have never had money of this value transferred to me before and am unsure if itís safe or if there is any way the money can be recalled / cancelled after itís been paid?

Whatís your thoughts / advice on this..?

I have made a receipt up and will have this signed along with the V5 etc before releasing the car. Is there anything else I should do?

Make sure the funds are cleared into your bank account before you hand over the car - as a fail safe, once the money is in the account go into the bank and withdraw it immediately or transfer it to another bank account - that would be my advice

Did this buyer tell you by any chance that someone/a company will pick the car up on their behalf because they are too busy or far away from you?

No but he did say he has drivers which collect cars but in this case he will actualy come and collect it himself. He provided me his ebay details and I can see his profile. He does buy and sell allot of cars this way.

Are you thinking there is something I should be watching out for?

Wihdrawing the money from your account won't in itself protect you if it turns out that the payment into your account was fake - your bank will simply ask you for the money back. I remember reading about how to do this the safe way, and I think it was recommended that he give you a banker's draft, you take it into your bank and they verify its authenticity by phoning the issuing bank.

Cool... will call the bank to confirm...

    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/nhltd

This is his ebay profile. Not many feedbacks (only 118) but looks like he buys allot of calls and the feedback is all good...

The bank does not have to be opened before you can verify whether the money has been paid into your account. This can easily be done online. I personally will prefer to collect cash during bank hours and pay same into my account. They might claim they can't carry huge cash with them to your place but you can both walk into their bank in your area and make them transfer the money to your account through a bank rep. This person could be genuine but if it involves a lot of money, you can't be too careful. Meanwhile things can always change to the fact that someone else will pick up the car for them. BTW, how are you sure it is their ebay profile?

    I see...

The buyer is from down south and will be getting the train up to collect the car. Not sure who he banks with (will confirm this today) so I can find out about the transfer process.
