    confused Another Egr Fault

    As the title says I got a weird fault with my car maybe somebody can shed some light on it.
    I have a 2006 vectra Sri 1.9cdti (120) and I've had the car almost a year now but when I bought the car the emL was showing but didn't bother me but over time it's got to me so recently I took it to a mate's garage to have the egr. Replaced as the error code that I had scanned from the car was P0400 so anyway long story short I swapped over another egr from a new 2007 vectra same 120 version and the car now gets kinda warm quick and the runing temp has been allot higher as in it goes over half way on the mway also when I first start it from cold the spanner light Comes on then goes off are about a minutes

    I wouldnt think the EGR would effect the running temperature? That would be a sticking thermostat in my imo.

    when was the last time you had a cambelt and waterpump change?

    i`ll explain a bit better now as i started this thread on my mobile last lol
    anyway the car was running perfect before the egr was replaced in the sense that i drove it almost 1 year without any faults like for example the spanner light and the car temp was bang on 80 never went over 85 if ever.
    the whoe issue is that since ive replaced the Egr it seems to have cured the eml error light which hasnt come on since the egr gas been replaced but now its a wehole story of the spanner light coming on,
    when i start the car from cold or when i leave the car for a couple of hours the spanner light will apear for a couple of minutes then it will go out and not come on again unless the engine is cold and also whenever the spanner light is on the engine sounds like crap and stutters so all my new problems have started when i changed the egr valve over from another car......
    i think maybe for some reason the new egr i have put in is ******ed aswell anybody think its worth me buying a brand new one ?

    80-85 is ok on the temperature gauge

    thanks dude is there anyway of testing the egr as said can i just put 12v to the power connections

    Yes you can. I did this with the EGR which I stripped down, including solenoid. I connected to 12 V battery, via a switch on the +Ve side. Once cleaned the EGR valve fully snapped open instantly when I applied 12 v and closed instantly on removal of the voltage. Previous to cleaning, the action was very jerky and sluggish.

    Bit of a productive day today as I was getting annoyed with all this egr. Trouble and warning lights I went to the dealers and bought a brand new egr valve.
    So after having it replaced the car instantly felt better when revving and even on the initial start up no wsrning lights and all good even the the temp gauge wadnt over heating anymore so drove it for around 50miles and so i thought when i get home to post up my findings and what sorted it BUT......

    As i parked up at a freinds house before i got home i started the engine and there was thr dreaded spanner light again only came on for about 5seconds though unlike before it would stay till the car is warm.sothe conclusion is the new egr has sorted something out but not the whole problem hopefully it might just be a gremlin and ill see in the morning how it really is
