Question Which Adaptor Needed For Steering Controls?

Hi guys. I currently have a ncdc2013. & I wanted to install my old kenwood kvt-729. I wanted to know which adaptor to buy so I can continue using my steering controls so I can change tracks, volume, & use my BC functions on my dashboard screen. Is this possible? My car is half-canbus with 6 buttons on my steering wheel. It's a 53plate, 2004reg srinav dual fuel. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks. PaZ.

Yes it should be possible to do this, however you need to be cautious as to which Vectra-C that you search for.

It may be better to look for listings saying "For Omega-B", as these were also Half-Canbus units, and were also fitted with the NCDC2013 / 2015 and NCDR2011.

Here is a typical Kenwood specific control adapter loom

You would need the wiper stalk with the BC buttons on it to operate the board computer on the display.

I thought the NCDC unit was a can bus set up in a half can bus format if that makes sense to anyone...

Anyway... Few things you will need... A wiper stalk with the computer function (will also need to be activated using tech2 or "the other" software), a wiring loom adaptor with the headunit patch lead.

I would take the NCDC unit out first to verify you have the three block ISO connector and not the fraquar harness first off. As long as you do then this loom should fit with the kenwood patch lead.

You can get them off ebay cheaper I belive also but I have used this firm for years and they are always dead helpfull...

Dont know the part number but if you list the ebay link here I will be able to confirm it against the one I have in both my cars.

You will just need th stock and for it to be activated using tech 2 etc. The rest of the moduel etc is not needed.

I can definately confirm that the NCDC2013 is half-CAN, and so does indeed use the ISO connection - not the Quadlock - Hence why I quoted the Omega-B... it also uses the NCDC 2013, but has a differently wired display.

Regarding what is needed - the steering wheel adapter lead that I showed you will plug in between the body loom and the back of the head unit. You should not need another link adapter loom as used for parrot kits etc.

Then carefully pull out the wiper stalk - there is a how 2 for this.

Then fit the wiper stalk with the BC buttons on it.
Ensure that it is pushed fully in.

The display will not communicate with the steering wheel buttons when the adapter lead is fitted.

The CIM module will need to be programmed to show that the stalk with BC switches has been fitted.
This is done in the variance configuration tables for the CIM, and you will need the car pass for this.

The CANbus bit, is only where the Display is linked to the Head-unit via the mid-speed CAN.
Other than that, the head-unit uses little in the way of CAN communication
The Vectra-C display does all the CAN communication with the car.
In the Omega, the display has no other CAN function.

The NCDC and NCDR headunits are a strange hybrid between KWP protocol and half CAN protocol

KWP protocol for lighting and ignition logic (status) and standard pin 7 diagnostics.

Mid speed CAN for comms with the Display .
And in-turn it uses the display to use SW CAN diagnostic and BC comms via the BCM, IPC etc.
