    Default Heater Fan Settings

I recently bought a vectra and I wondered whether someone could clear up some confusion I have over the heater fan control.

When I have the fan speed set to 1, 2 or 3 I get very little air out of the vents. On 4 I get a little more but still not much. The fan speed changes at each setting but it sounds as though it's just blowing harder behind the dash somewhere.

If I turn on the air recirculation then the air speed at the vents change as I'd expect with each setting but when I turn it off it audibly sounds as though it's blowing behind the dash and not into the car.

I'm hoping this isn't normal behavior! Has anyone had a similar problem or know what it might be? My car is still in warranty so if it is a problem with the car I'll just book it in to be seen.

    Thanks in advance.

    Chris

First thing is to check the pollen filter, it may be clogged up and hence no matter how fast your fan is moving, no pushing the air around. It is located in the passenger bulkhead, also make sure the drain holes are clean, whilst you are there.

Next check the flaps are moving freely, they sometimes jam.

Checked the pollen filter and it looks clear and pretty new. Guessing it was replaced the service before I bought it. How do I check the flaps are moving freely?

    Cheers

With the filter out, switch the fan on, you should see it turning freely, or even try and spin the fan with your fingers with the fan off of course.

It may need a drop of lubrication on the centre shaft, try a squirt of WD40 etc see if that helps. If it does then use some light spray grease, I personally use motorbike chain lube ( will no doubt be ribbed for mentioning it again), but it is a mix of oils and waxes and will be a more permanent lubricant.

Fan it's moving freely. Anything else I can check easily? J

Just to confirm, there should be a notable difference between the fan settings?!
