2.2 Direct EGR valve question

quick question guys.

Was cleaning out the egr valve on my 2.2 direct signum. I noticed when cleaning it out the flap which opens and closes is very stiff and hard to open. It closes itself and seals fine but is it meant to be so stiff? or Is it meant to move quite freely and with ease?

In the absence of anyone who knows anything about this EGR/engine replying so far, I'll have a guess! Most actuated valves require a fair amount (thumb pressure on 1.9cdti EGRs and throttle valves for example) of pressure to move, but move without gritty/lumpy movement. So, if you're having to wedge a screwdriver up the flap, that's probably not good, but if you're moving it with your hand, it's probably not bad!
