    Default Flat Battery = Jumping = Warning light = Safeguard

    Hello ,

    My Vec has been parked up a few weeks due to unemployment .

    I have tried to run it for 20/30 mins every week

    and was working great before laying it up .

    But eventually , the battery / engine have given up .

    The central locking worked on opening the car .

    Then , when turning the key , i get lots of clicking noises from the glove box area ( i think ) and in the engine bay .

    I have tried to jump the car with one of those yellow car jumper things you plug in your house socket for 12 hours to charge , but nothing happened , except more clicking .

    When i went around to the open bonnet , on the left side of the engine , i heard a little high pitch beep/whine and then click .

    I tried to jump it again , but this time , the computer is saying == SAFE GUARD , with a picture of the man running away .

    And , now a warning light similar to the circled picture below , remains on , behind the steering wheel , at the far right side .

    The remote key central locking has now stopped working and had to lock it by hand .

    Before , i use another vehicle to jump my Vec is there anything , i should know or not do.

    Thank You for any replies .

    I'm assuming the starter motor isn't getting enough juice from the battery in order to kick over. Hence the clicking. So just make sure you do things properly and you shouldn't have an issue, i.e. negative to ground, turn all electrics off in both motors, you'll probably want to leave it a minute after you connect them up (make sure the working car is running of course), i had to last time i jumped mine anyway.

    Yes, it will go off a few seconds after starting, that's the exhaust gas symbol, it will always stay illuminated until you start the engine (check your owners manual for more info). You've probably just never noticed before

    The symbol for exhaust emissions is without the stop lettering in the middle isnt it?

    I can confirm ............. My dash sign is similar as above ,

    BUT , has no " Stop " word inside it .

    it is to the far right behind the steering wheel .

    The picture above is the closest , i could find .

    Yeah, but as hitfactory said, its "similar". The symbol in his picture mind you is the exhaust symbol, just not for a vec-c (the symbol outline is the same and they tend to be "standardised")

    What djlee said

    Jump it from a running car, rather than a charger. Let the "donor" car run for a few minutes before starting your car though. Then take it for a brisk drive

    I'm not far from Shiremoor, if you need a hand, PM or text me

    My car jumped back into life at the first turn of the key after a jump from a Renault scenic .

    The reason i posted this subject was because i did not know what the warning light was . ( which has now gone out )

    I didn't want to risk any damage .
    ================================================== =======

    On another subject about flat batteries .

    I had to lock all the doors by hand

    and thought nothing about the boot until i went to get the jump leads out and it was still open from yesterday .

    Can You Manually Lock The Boot By Hand When you Have A Flat Battery ?

    ================================================== =

    Thanks to everyone for their help .
