Default Vectra 3.2 V6 intermittent running fault

The problem I am having with my vectra is it seems to have an intermittent running fault,it still starts and drives, and doesnt misfire, however after a few miles it seems to hesitate and the engine management light flashes intermittently, and so does the battery light, then its ok for a bit and then it does it again..the rev counter jumps up and down etc.

    Please help.

Seems a fair mileage if it is the original alternator
    Have the voltages checked

BUt if it was the alternator wouldnt I have problems trying to start the car as the battery would be drained?

As you said its an intermittent fault... Its obviously charging the battery to a point, but after driving for a while its putting a drain on the battery as its not charging it as it should. As m8internet says, get the voltages read... Sounds like the Alternator or battery is going to die soon.

Should be just above 12 v across the battery and just under 15 v (14 point something I think) when running... measure that, then turn things like the AC, lights, radio etc on and see if there's a drop in the charging

That would only happen when the alternator has finally died, it can take some time for this to happen
The other time this would happen is if the belt powering the alternator has worn, out of tension or slipped
As a petrol it should still start, but the alternator light will remain on throughout
