Maldonado wasn't on the track, Hamilton had every right to be there and defend that line.
at point of contact he was 3/4s on the track lewis will have known his rears were cooked and he knew he would lose the position.
All the same, Maldonado had to re-enter the track, Hamilton had the line. You wouldn't do it in the real world. We will see what the stewards say though!

There were no flags, so does not apply, as well as some other minor such rules
Sadly all Maldonado receieved was a Drive Thru penalty; 20 seconds added to race end time
Vergne has come off the worst, with a 10 place grid drop at next race (plus fine)

right, maldo has indeed picked up a 20sec penalty (missed that, if that was said during the race on BBC): -
"Williams driver Pastor Maldonado has been penalised for causing the collision that took Lewis Hamilton out of the European Grand Prix.
The Venezuelan was given a 20-second penalty, which drops him from 10th to 12th place and out of the points." (BBC, 2012)
