    Default foot brake issue

    hey lads

think ive got a minor problem with the foot brakes, 30 40 mph hit the brakes and all seems fine.

70 80mph testing the brakes and different matter.

if i hit the brakes hard im not lurched forward like i was in the 1.8 sri while i had it.

with this 2.2 when breaking at high speed and watching the speedo the speed drops quite slowly with my foot pressing the pedal as hard as i can.

you also have to push the pedal about a inch before you can feel the brakes starting to work.

plenty of meat on the pads, but i aint sure about the discs, there seems to be more metal on the outside and lower rim of the disk, the middle of the discs aint as wide as the top and bottom if you know what i mean.

if t he discs are worn too much would this cause the exces pedal movement before they kick in?

as i say you whack the foot break but the car dont slow down as fast as i belive it should.

passed mot only last week but that only means it met min requirements.

I would have thought from your description that the pads are not actually touching the disc across the discs entire surface,ie uneven wear .

Personally I'd put new discs n pads in using quality aftermarket ones, unless you can get cheaper at trade. And I'b be checking the rears too, maybe even doing a brake fluid flush whilst access is good.

Sound advice - definitely replace discs and pads for starters - do the fronts but examine the rears carefully and replace if necessary

thanks for the replys, i will do the discs and pads all round and get the brake fluid changed, hope this will fix it, didnt feel good at all, pressing brake pedal hard but nothing much happening at the wheels in terms of slowing down.

well i used eurocar parts for front and rear discs and pads, came to £84 thanks to 30% discount code someone posted on here (thank you lol) had them fitted today for free from the place i bought the car, straight away i noticed a vast improvement, just had to tap the brake pedel and i could feel the front brakes kicking in, just using brakes lightly till they bed in and dont wanna do a emegency stop from 70mph just yet lol, so hopefully once they bed in that should be the brake issue resolved.

the garage has also identified one or two oil leakes, cant remember the exact places but some seals he said, not the rocker gasket i know that, so he wants my car for a full day next week to replace various seals all at his expense, engine bay is very clean and i cant see any oil just by looking, but i was getting a slight oil smell when stationary coming through the vents, so must be dripping on to exhaust or somewhere, i really cant fault the owner of the garage i bought this car he is wonderfull and nothing is a problem to him, real customer service and a joy to deal with.
