Default car cleaning on a budget

    hi

i have a karcher presure washer, and in the past i have just used this to clean my car, no soaps, just the power of the water.

well now i have a 06 vecy and of course i want to look after it but on a budget.

having a lot of rain at moment, and it appears this car has not had a wax as the water is not beading.

so i want to karcher the car, then what? do i just karcher it then apply a wax product with a micro fibre?

and what about the black plasticy bits (around windows fog sourrounds winf mirrors etc)

can you guys give me some tips on what i should be dooing and using?

    cheers

Hey buddy, I wouldnt advise you just pressure wash your car then go rubbing a microfibre over it, not without washing it properly with wash mitt etc, as just running your pressure washer over the car will only remove loose dirt etc so if you then go rubbing a mf cloth over it you could cause damage to the paint. Check out the detailing guide it the detailing section it's very good and will show you the correct method of washing your car. it's easy to go overboard buying a million different products, when I'm doing mine I jet wash first then wash with wash mitt, towel dry then apply autoglym aqua spray wax, if you didn't want to go that far I guess you could buy a shampoo and wax in one (think megs do one) it all depends on the finish you want, don't expect great results with just pressure washing alone, like I say have a read on the detailing section for the detailing guide, rob

cheers lads, will read the guide.

was basically just wanting a half decent shine, and something to make the rain water bead and above all to protect the paint work, lots of trees around and bird crap is a major problem, off to read the guide.

ive just read that brilliant guide, that seems to be a profesional way of cleaning, i just think for time and money its a little over kill for me personally.

this is the routine im hoping to follow, after your advice and reading that guide.

    1. karcher the car.
    2. shampoo and good hand wash with a mitt.
    3. karcher rinse.
    4. towel dry
    5. then wax with a half decent wax
    6 windows and black bits.

is a micro fibre mitt ok for what i want to do or you recomend a wool one?

again that guide is a very good one and im not knocking it, it just seems a bit too pro and time consuming for me

That routine is fine, a MF mitt will work just fine.
