Default Correct oil and quantity for a 1.9

Hoping to use a mates pit to do an oil chang eon the car. Its a 1.9 cdti150.
I have 6 litres of GM 10W40 left from my petrol days, i know this probably isnt the recommended oil, but is this suitable for a diesel and have I enough?

If yours has a DPF then do not put 10/40 in it, stick with the recommended 5/30 or better such as 0/40 etc

From memory, it should be 5W/30 Long-Life GM approved oil grade (GM-LL-A-025 or GM-LL-B-025) and your car will require circa 4.3ltrs if you're planning to do an oil and filter change. Genuine GM DEXOS oil costs circa £25.00 for 5ltrs which is no dearer than non-GM after-market branded products - but I would not recommend using 10W/40 due to the risk of damaging the DPF. Check your owners manual if in doubt...

Millers oils is the best in my opinion but at £45.00 for 5ltrs it's not cheap.

4.3 litres according to the handbook.

And as others have said, 5w/30 (Vauxhall actually recommend the 5w/30 long life fully synth oil for ALL Vec-C and Signum engines)

Yes it's GM Dexos 5ltr will do your oil change with some to spare, just done mine £26 from local factors.

Question...Why would say GM 10w 40 semi synth damage your DPF?
I was thinking of using it on the last oil change being as I change every 6-7k but for the price difference I stuck with Dexos.

I use fully synthetic in my 2004 1.9cdti (120) cause it is reasonably cheap through the Trade Club - but I think in an older higher mileage diesel semi synthetic should be fine as long as you are changing it on a regular basis - fully synthetic should be used on the extended service interval scheme and at one time Vauxhall said that in their service manuals. They will recommend fully synthetic - they sell it!

I use gm 10/40 semi in mine cdti120, done 110k change every 10k. Thicker oil, better protection, quieter running IMO. If high mileage i'd use the 10/40.
Just bought through trade club, £38.37+vat for 4x5ltrs.(buy 3 get 1 free deal) as i use in my wifes 1.5dci megane also.

I must admit that's what I use on all the other cars but as I love the Vectra so much I always treat her to the best......
