Default Easy or not to sell V6 3.0 CDTi Signum these days?

    Hi all,

Have been a long-time reader of the forums but have decided it is time to move on from my Signum to an Insignia. Just wondering though how easy it is to sell them privately these days and the best route?

I checked the WeBuy anything options and the price they quote is quite low plus I have heard lots of stories that they tend to reduce the actual price further once you get to the appointment stage.

Trade in is an option I guess but some of the quotes I have had vary considerably.

So, are they good sellers or be prepared for a long slog?!

I know it depends on price - I will look for whatever the What Car valuation suggests. Mine has done 81k miles, 06 plate, FSH, Leather, Auto, Cruise Control, Elite version etc., Always carefully driven - mpg is my aim! Out of interest for the life of the car (I have done 56k) I have achieved 36.3Mpg with mixed driving. On a long motorway run with cruise control and 62mph I have even achieved 50+mpg on a 170m run! Not bad for a 3.0 V6! 40mpg is relatively easy for motorway driving.

    Thanks all,

I couldn't be bothered with selling privately - quite happily took the hit when I traded in my car recently. Could've maybe got another grand for it privately but the dealerships hardly even look at it as most go straight to auction so they don't know about things which a private seller will pick up on...

Thanks for the info - the price quoted by dealers varies so much. I guess it is all relevant to the overall package - some give you a good trade in but higher vehicle price and vice-versa elsewhere. It would be the case that the car I want is from a dealer with a terrible trade in price! Just can bring myself to let the Signum go so cheaply hence the thought of trying a private sale or web based car purchase.

Interested in any other views out there!

Would think the private sale of these ain't gonna be quick.. Consider them more specialist tbh

If buying from dealers I always negotiate on the screen price of the car I'm interested in before mentioning my part exchange, ask for the best price for cash first then slip in "what would you offer for mine in part ex" but expect bottom book price... Squeeze them for every penny and if your not happy walk away....

Again, it depends what the car is worth to them (selling) and what their targets are like for that month. I managed a great deal on mine and was very happy, sometimes the salesman just wont budge... but it's a game and fight for the deal you're happy with, if you're not happy, walk away, tons of Vecs out there

Cheers for this and the other replies, going for the Insignia now! There are absolutely hundreds of them around!

Best thing to do is concentrate on the new car, forget about the old one mate. Make your life much simpler by just trading it in, or selling off/swapping any bits on it which the garage won't notice. I was offered £3100 for my 57 plate XP2 1.9 150 with 116K, and although I reckon I could maybe have sold it for 4 grand privately, it had various faults which would have been spotted by any private buyer. Instead I swapped all the uprated brakes I'd fitted and made back 300 squid, and left it at that.

    Go for the simple life...

Edit: Oh, and you'll love the Insignia - check out my thread...

I'd always sell privately - allow £100 for advertising Autotrader, Ebay, Gumtree, Admag, etc - why give the Dealers a grand (unless you can afford lose it - of course) - never use We Buy Any Car or similar. Become a Full Member and put it on the Cars for Sale section.

Wow, that has made me think - I wasn't expecting anything like £4k even though the car is in superb condition. May have to rethink - if I can get somewhere in the middle (£3.5k) for a quick sale then I may hold on and forget the trade in!

See what similar cars are advertised on autotrader for mate and go from there - the 3.0 will be a harder sell though just because of the size of the engine regardless of what fuel economy you can get out of it. I should know - I had one a couple of years ago and selling it privately proved so much hassle I just traded it in in the end as it made life so much easier...
