    Default Exhaust gasses opinions please....

Whilst on the school run today i parked up left engine running, and stretched legs.
It was cold and i soon noticed that the nice warm exhaust gasses (that show up white in the cold) were only coming out of the right hand side of the twin exhaust(I have a 2.2 SRI) and not out of the left hand side.

Low and behold a 2.2 arrived at the car park and purely by chance i had an opportunity to compare, and sure enough clouds of nice white exaust emissions were coming out of both pipes.

It was interesting to note that when i put my hand by the pipes, the right hand side was as expected blowing out warm emissions, when the left was blowing cold

Any of you guys know what might be the cause of this?

    cheers.

All I can guess is the second pipe is more for show than anything else, on a V6 you would expect both to be warm using a bank per pipe, and it could also be one of the pipes has collapsed inside blocking and diverting the gases, does it sound blowy at all?

well blowy? Hmm,there is a slight blow at the point where single becomes twin, with a tell tale sign of a dash of a soot like mark on the pipe blown outwards. Did mention it to the stealers when it was in last week not sure if they got round to that bit tho.
Would a pipe only 18 months old have collapsed in anyway already then?
Have to say the other 2.2 looked completely different to mine the way it was blowing nice clouds of white out of both the pipes.

unlikely, but the gases will always take the path with least resistance.. what happens if someone else revs the engine while you stand and look??...do you get steam out of both then??..

I wasn't quoting Vectras in particular Mark, I just remember the old Capri's I had used to give off lovely swirls when p[lanted on a cold morning.

It's gotta be some sort of blockage in the pipe if you ask me, cant see any other reason, as you mention it could be a resistance thing, maybe one is in better condition than the other.

I'd try what GSi says, and if it balances then don't worry.
