    Default Aerial base options

    Hey all,

I had a look at the Aerial base of both my vectras and the rubber bit is looking pritty perished so I am planning on replacing them.

Now from a quick search I see that my only option to replace the one I have to to buy a brand new base (if they still make them) from vauxhall at a pricely sum.. This is becuase Ihave the washer jet in both of them...

I was wondering however what other options I have....

I remember reading somewhere that fitting the gromit in the link below by soaking in it hot water first may work... Anyone shed soem light on this?

I was also wondering if there was any SABB parts which could be used instead.. Anyone know anything on this one..?

Finaly... If i do need to buy new bases do I have to get the small slim on whcich the car has at present or could I change to one of the larget square looking ones?

I went to the scrappys, got one of a Vec B, strange but a much older car and the rubber seal was in far better condition. Maybe just the usual VX cost cutting on newer models.

Both my Vectras have suffered from this. Both times I have just very carefully trimmed back the seal using a sharp blade, to remove the bit that protrudes past the solid base of the aerial, then ran a small neat bead of black silicone around the base.

Seals perfectly, and to be honest if you make a tidy job of it you hardly even notice.
