Default Squeaky bum time!! Handbrake Recall Outstanding?? How do I check?

Is there any way of checking if my car has had the handbrake recall done?

I think its playing up as last week I was at the shops sat in the car on a hill pointing upwards. Car was running but in neutral with handbrake on, then all of a sudden it started rolling back with handbrake still up!!!

Luckily I was looking out the window and not down at my phone or something!!

Do we have a How 2 here on how to check if its been done?

    Thanks.

    Bye bye Vec B

Sure the handbrake failure recall was more to do with the spring on the handbrake failing and it dropping off the ratchet. As you pull it on it would make a grinding noise and drop a couple of clicks. If you go into any VX garage they should be able to check if yours has been done or not. Sounds more like your isn't holding on the pads, take the wheels off and check the handbrake levers on the calipers are free.

When I got my Vec it had this sticker on the visor(which I removed), then about a year ago I received a letter from VX advising me to take it in to get the handbrake done. Im sure the sticker was just a stop gap advising people of a safer way to apply the hand brake.

Mine's the same - I have the sticker, but got a letter last year saying they had no record of it coming in for the recall.

The sticker actually just tells you what the Owner's Handbook and every driving instructor tells you - don't press the button on the handbrake when you pull it on if you're parking. Let the ratchet click as you pull it, and ideally leave it in gear too. That way you know the ratchet pawl is properly engaged and won't slip off. The problem comes from the spring not being strong enough to pull the pawl into place if you press the button and it ends up part way up a tooth. So there's a danger it could slip off, potentially releasing the handbrake. By all means press the button when you're holding the handbrake on at a junction though, as your hand it on it to pull it more if the car starts to roll.

Use the car properly as the manufacturer intended and there's no problem, whether it's had the recall for the mechanism or not.

had mine done recently , no sticker fitted & the main reason for me getting mine done was the fact I live on a very steep hill & would rather my car didn't go for a drive by itself

Me too. But approx 5 months before that I had wrote the car off. So much for whoever obtained out of date records about my car.

I have owned my veccy since 2006. I was first sent the sticker for the visor (as stated above, this was an interim measure, Vx was later forced to do a recall), then later I was sent a recall notice (I think at least 2 to date). As I always pull the handbrake on and let the rachet click and always leave the car in gear when parking, I have never let Vx perform this recall on my car. I have had no related issues either.
