    Default Mouldy Smell A/C

My A/C works fine, i think, but 2 things happen.

    1. The windows fog up a little...

    2. After i turn it off. there is a terrible damp/mouldy smell coming from the vents...

Is there a good solution to these probs? Or is my air con unit busted?

I heard that an under-engine condenser plug hole can be blocked, causing this. But i have no idea where that would be.

The pollen filter has been changed and that area is clear!

    Thanks Guys
    Joe

The best solution is to leave it switched on all year round. Seriously.

I've got climate control and in the 5 years I've owned the car, I've never smelt anything nasty from it. Passengers on the other hand....

All you do with bog standard AC to mimic what climate control does is to alter the fan speed and heat setting manually to your own comfort level.

Another thing to occasionally do is run the AC with the temperature turned up to max.

I had the moudly smell around 2 years ago, only after aircon had been running then being switched off. I removed the pollen filter and with the heater running on speed 3 and with air con on, I slowly sprayed a anti-bacterial kitchen spray into the pollen filter intake. I then cycled the heat from hot and cold a few times. When I use the aircon now, I always make sure that I switch if off at least a minute before the end of my journey (apparently, the smell is due to bacteria breeding in standing moisture). The mouldy smell has never returned and I give it a quick blast of anti-bacterial spray once a year.

Sounds like you need a new pollen filter and to treat the aircon system with a sanitiser spray (about £10, autoglym do them too), you set the spray off in the passenger foot well with the aircon on and it sanitises the system/vents etc and leaves a nice fresh smell. If you don't use the air con very often consider doing this every couple of years at service time.

never the less misting up is a good indication the pollen filter is damp, it could of got wet when being fitted for all we know!

The best thing to do is check your air con drain pipes aren't blocked then use a air con sanitiser bomb ( I found the silver hook one has an ok smell) but make sure the system is on recirculate when you use the bomb

Under the car somewhere. Hopefully you'll see a damp patch that will give you a clue where the rough area is, but it won't be far from the underside of the bulkhead.
