Default CIM Fault 1.9 CDTi 16v

    Hi

I have a problem with my cim unit, no horn, radio controls and airbag light on.
I am sure the problem lies with the clock spring ribbon cable. Have tested it and no voltage at any of the connector pins.
My question are how easy is it to strip down the cim unit to repair/replace the ribbon cable, and I have seen a replacement cim unit for sale, the codes look the same except the ref is different, mine is a DM and the one for sale is a UZ. Are these compatible?
Can i just replace the unit like for like, or will it need reprograming as i suspect.

If it needs reprograming is there anyone around the chester area who you can recomend to do it.

Will the car be driveable with a non programed unit fitted?

    Thanks

not sure if you can measure any voltage at the clock spring terminals, it works on resistance. you should see about 4-5ohms from the airbag squib down the clockspring and to the CIM. Make sure you get one with the same ident as certain idents belong to different chassis ranges, dont know all the difference but there are between facelift and prefacelift. yes it will need a full program (make sure u get one which is tech2 cleared) and i would advise it is only programmed with tech2. No its not possible to drive anywhere with an unprogrammed one as it is part of the immobilser system. Dont know anyone up that way who can do it.

If your quite careful a strip down and rebuild from one unit to another is possible with the clock spring.

but that dont account for the horn or indicators not working, thats probably CIM electronics internally
Plasma's Tech2 services are now partially open and able to provide services

    thanks for the info,
can a cim unit be tech2 cleared once it has been removed from a car ordoes it have to be done in place prior to removal.

yes it can be cleared away from the car as long as you have the correct code for it from the donor vehicle
