Cool Key fob not letting engine start

    Hi Guys,

I have 2 keys, both lock & unlock the car perfectly, 1 starts the car first time every time, the other keeps coming up with a spanner symbol & doesn't let the engine start.
1 Key is the original type that you got on an '03' plate & the other is a new shape key (like you get on an '07' plate), the new shape key has the correct electronics/chip inside & I've even swapped the chip board from the old zapper to the new shape zapper & the new zapper still only works intermittently.
I have replaced the zapper batteries & that doesn't make any difference, I heard about a design fault with the key fobs & that the main dealers stuck bits on cardboard in the key fobs but really need a reliable answer.
    Please help !

the transponder doesnt rely on a battery voltage, it gets its power to send the transponder signal by being placed near the receiver (something to do with a voltage being created by passing a winding of coils near a magnet induces a voltage) so it looks like the transponder/key itself mate.

Thanks Plasma, the circuit board doesn't seem to sit in the new key very solidly so I think you are right, I'm going to try jamming some cardboard inside the key fob & I'll see if I can come up with some useful info for anyone else with the same problem, cheers !

I worked out what was wrong ! You were absolutely right Plasma, the coil that creates the signal is actually a spring !
On the newer keys (with the little button you press & the key pops out) you have to turn the spring round by force 3 times so that when you press the button the key pops out easily, it also compresses the spring & makes it contact the right bits, I tried it over & over again to make sure it was reliable & it has been perfect, cheers for your help Plasma !
