For the exact reasons above and of course cost, I'm learning how to do all these things my self, just pay for parts and then you know that the job is done and hopefully done right, had no problems so far with the few jobs I've done albeit just servicing and basic maintenance stuff.

Well done - thats the best way to do it and you will surprise yourself what you are capable of doing - plus with the money you save you can buy a decent set of tools and equipment to keep on doing your own repairs/servicing. Getting underneath to do servicing, etc gives you an ideal opportunity to have a good look around and hopefully spot any potential problems and catch them in the early stages - and the biggest plus is that you know any work has been done properly and you have not been ripped off.
