Default DTUK Tuning box... anyone have one?

Looking at the DTUK tuning box on there website they make some bold claims... so just after what you guys think?

120 to 170 is a massive jump, I'd expect 150 to go to 170 but not the 120?!

At what mileage would you say NO the car wouldnt get anythig from it / wont take it etc?

from what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) the 120 and 150 are exactly the same engine, just with different mappings in, so its not that crazy that the 120 and 150 can both be remapped to the same bhp

The bold claims are accurate, I've got a CRD2 fitted to my 150 and its just shy of 200bhp.. well at least it was on my Astra which put out 198bhp and 300lbft torque.

The CRD-T is even better, controlling the boost as well as fuelling to achieve around 215bhp. On the Astra Owners Network the DTUK boxes are extremely popular, I jumped on the DTUK bandwagon and have loved it since.

They're different engines, 120 is an 8v and the 150 is 16v. except the early 120s which were detuned 16v engines. The DTUK boxes are not a remap, they basically increase fuelling at appropriate revs by interrupting the signal from the ECU. Sounds agricultural compared to a remap but it works well. Cheaper boxes are basically a rheostat in series, but most of the DTUK boxes have a bit more science and engineering behind them.

Um... dig out your graph and tell us what the transmission losses were. I have a CRD-T and even with a 52mm hybrid turbo, water/methanol, EDS stage one remap aswell and a massive front mounted intercooler I was only pushing 230bhp although with 395lbft.

I had a green box on mine, up on a high setting and it got the car to just over 172 (mine is a 150 though) so not the gain expected but to be fair it did go well. A second hand one seems to be a good buy. If your looking at a new one you might as well go for a remap.

My car did 4 runs on the rollers, first was with the box at 172, second was standard at 151, third was remapped at 185 and the fourth was with the remap tweaked with egr delete which made 188. All in the same conditions, on the same day.

Ive had one on all my cars and never had a problem. My golf GT TDI had 126k on the clock my astra 1.9 had 90k and i have one on my current vectra 1.9 on 60k. As long as you don;t drive flat out everywhere you shouldnt have any problems

You'll have to wait til the weekend for the graph, its on my computer at home. The general consensus of the RR was that it seemed accurate, there were plenty of other Astras with graphs for comparison so I have no reason to doubt the validity of the readings, however i haven't spent a lot of time and money modding either my Astra or Vectra, nor spent a long time on the rollers so Im sure theyll be room for scrutiny. There are plenty of graphs on AON to back up the claims for the CRD-T though, how come with all the extras you only got 230?

I had a CRD2 red box on my astra 1.9 120 8v and the power was 172 on the rolling road.. Serious punch for not allot of money...

That said I would choose the remap every single time personaly. I prefer the way the power is delivered etc...

If you do decide to but a DTUK box tell them (most likley will be Andrew you speak to) that Coldo West of Scotland ARO from AON told you to speak to them... You might find that you wil get a cheeky little discount....

Thanks for the replies people... I've seen a used one, but it was used on a 150, would that make a difference?
