Default Had a very traumatic night !

At about 12:30a.m. I was sat up in the small hours on the interweb, watching live streaming of the storm chasers from 'The Discovery Channel' when i heard a toddler screaming.
So i got up and looked out the window to see what was happening.

As i peek through the curtains, i could see the car belonging to a young couple who live opposite pulling forwards towards my driveway, it then stopped in the middle of the road.
What i saw next made my heart stop !
Their 17 month old son was laying on it's back screaming.
The child had walked out the front door on its own whilst his grandmother was reversing the car onto the drive.
She'd driven over him. She'd driven over the poor lads head !

Anne (my wife) woke and asked what was going on and i couldn't tell her at first. I ran downstairs and got some trainers on and a coat so i could help just as Anne flew past me in her dressing gown and out the door across the road. The childs grandmother had picked him up and was taking him indoors, the screams were frightening, both from the kid, the mother and grandmother !

Anne took the kid and held him whilst they called for an ambulance as the family were hysterical.

Paramedics arrived within a couple of minutes as did 3 police cars, 2 police vans and a few mins later, a fully loaded ambulance which took the poor mite and his mom off to the Childrens hospital in Birmingham.
The police taped the area off and started to take our details for further questioning later.

I got Anne to go back indoors to get a shower as she was soaked in blood and distressed herself.
I made her a strong coffee and calmed her down a bit. She said that the lads head was out of shape and his scalp was right back, hence all the blood on her.

The accident investigation team then arrived and started taking measurements and photographs and the car was taken away on a low loader.
By about 3:30a.m. the police had finished and went away.

We found out this morning from the lads father that the boy is in intensive care with a skull fracture. No other major injuries thank God !

Anne and myself have had about 2 hours sleep, can't stop thinking about whats happened. Hope he's going to be ok.

Nasty job - good of you both to get involved and get stuck in - its not until later that theses things catch up with you and hit home - so take it steady and keep an eye on your wife as daft as it sounds even an incident like that can bring on post trauma stress that can result in sleeplessness and other reactions. During my working life I attended hundreds of traumatic incidents and these things do have a habit of coming back to you.
Well done - lets hope the little lad is ok.

Thats just made me feel emotional!

Traumatic for the family but obviously for you too. I hope the little one makes a full recovery but also hope his Gran does too as this is clearly going to scar her for life. Its obviously an accident but she will never forgive herself for it.

I thinkg a huge well done should go out to both you and your wife for all the help you gave.
