    Default Biometric Immobiliser

Just been searching the web and came across this website it offers a fingerprint immobiliser fully fitted for £284.99, and it can be hooked up to the oem alarm system. They can also intergrate the scanner into the car so it looks oem.

What do you all think? Good idea or not? Obviously would need reprogramming or removing when it came to selling the car, but i have no intentions of doing that.

This sounds very good indeed. One should get a discount from the insurers with this added feature, or would they no doubt charge more for fitting an after market device or is it just me being smart, based on my previous spats with them.

does nobody watch mythbusters they got past this sort of system with a photocopy of said persons fingerprint on a lock that supposedley could not be hacked so i cant see it being as good as a thatcham approved gadget so no discounts i would think but good novelty value but as we say if they want your car they will have it

I was about to shoot this down in flames (service / MOT etc) but they are seemingly one step ahead. Not bad at all and it looks pretty cool - in a novelty kind of way. Don't think I'll be getting one though.

Nope, cant be doing with any of that.... Just another point of failure in my opinion.

I havent read the blurb, but...

You wouldnt be able to leave your car with anyone that needs to move it.....

    - Bodywork/Repairs
    - Tyres/Fitment of stuff
    - Mates house
    - Parking
    - Valet/Hotels

.... that would be a right pain.....

OK Read some of it now...

    Q) "What happens if my car has to go for a service to the dealership, do I have to enter the fingerprint of mechanics etc? "
    A) "No you can access a service mode on the system which allows the vehicle to function as normal."

So I take it that the 'service mode' shuts down the system until re-activated. So your car is sat outside a busy garage, with the keys nearby, with the immobiliser deactivated... thats safe...

"within seconds the fingerprint is scanned."

OK, how many seconds 30, 40 ?? - and whats the successful scan average percentage (50%-60%-90%) - I doubt it will be 100% successful, so you could be sat there like a wassak, pressing your finger against a cold plate, whilst it scans.... blip, sorry try again... blip, sorry try again... (err hammer please)

    Q) "Will the system scan an amputated finger? "
    A) "We have been informed; the touch pad requires a pulse from the finger"

Requires a pulse, that could prove to be difficult in winter if your finger is cold. ... and they dont answer the question... is it a yes or no !!

But does the chap who has just chopped your finger off know that it won't work?

    What about emergency situations.

I for one, would not fit one. The risks outway any benefits

Just looks gimmiky to me, all them chavvy LEDS etc.., hardly OEM install is it.

I should have no lights, and just be flat in the dash, i.e not visible.

    Great idea though tbh.
