Default rear door opening - - - - strange one

    Right, a slightly strange issue.

My rear drivers side door won't open from the outside handle, but will open from the inside handle (when unlocked of course !)

Any ideas? and will it be covered in 3rd year warranty?? (04 1.8 LS)

    TIA

Can't remember how all the mechanics are laid out for the door handle release, so can't give an answer.

As for warranty, can't see any reason why it wouldn't be covered if it's a mechanical issue.

If you are not covered under warranty you could try and swap the rear door handles over buy taking out the rubber bung(door open), using a torx and seeing if there is a issue with the handle itself. If not it may need the door card coming off.
    Best of luck

Sorry m8 but I think one of the only things not covered by the Warranty is the door handles, but whether that means them being operative or actually breaking physically i'm not sure.

Some of the bodywork and fittings only have a 1 year warranty which is pants.

    Good luck !

Currently it would fail an MOT (as the door cannot be opened from the outside), does that count for anything? As it is in 'unroadworthy condition' due to mechanical failure.

I'm going to ring my local dealer and ask what they reckon. If it's not covered, I'll do it myself. Not paying VX to do the work when I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself.

The one year warranty is only trims and paintwork. If the problem with the handle is a mechanical one then it is under the 3 year warranty.

this might sound stupid but is the child lock on- there is a small catch on the door lock that you turn with a key. it explains in your handbook.

the child lock should stop you from opening the door from the inside not the outside.
