Default Steel as a spare in Estate?

I know a full size alloy wont fit as a spare in the estate, but will a 16" steel and tyre off one of the lower models fit?

Just a question my Dad asked as he is going to be driving to switzerland a few times a year and doesnt want to rely on the space saver should anything happen, he'd much rather have a proper wheel and tyre to swap across should he need it....so i said i'd ask the question on here.

    Anyone any thoughts?

If an alloy wont fit, a 16inch steel wont either as the tyres basically work out at the same overall size, assuming you mean a 17 inch alloy, 215/50 17 verses 215/55 16

Yeah i know the 215/55-16 is the same width, but some of the later base spec cars have 205 tyres on a 16" rim, thats the sort of size i was thinking of

Full size spares fit in the Hatches and Saloons, but not in the estate....well, they do fit apparently but the boot floor sits higher, which would be a no go.
