beginners DA polisher and products

After a bit off advice. I would like to "get into" a bit of polishing.

Is there such a thing as a beginners kit. As I have have no idea what pads do what, what products do what.

Only ever polished a car by hand in the past. Would love a deep mirror like shine that you guys get.

There are plenty of Beginner sets out there, check Monza, Elite Car Care, Ebay, Amazon as most have a dedicated beginners kit. Pads work on the firmer they are the more cut you will get, very soft pads are for final finishing. As for polishes I use and like Maguiares mirror glaze range as it has cut meters on the front of the bottle, letting you know how severe, or light the cut of the polish is. The Megs stuff is also very good value for money at around £11-18 for a big bottle.

Thanks for the link. pretty good site. This might sound like a silly question but if you don't know you don't know. When applying polish in the past i've applied with a damp cloth to an entire panel wait for it to dry and then polished off by hand. Does the same apply but use a machine to take it off. Sorry for sounding dumb

When using a machine you take several passes over an area, lets use a bonnet as an example, about 15x15 inches, you work the polish until its broken down(may take 6 passes), wipe clean, inspect and re do the area if required, or step up to a more aggressive combination of pad and or/polish.

If you can get yourself an old car door(avoid VW as the paint is rock solid) and have a practise. I would like to try the sanding technique, but certainly not going to do it on my car at first.

Wet sanding with 2000/2500 grit paper and polishing up is no problem for me, did a fair bit on my bug getting small blemishes out. Just hard work doing the polishing by hand.

Its just all the different pads/products and worrying about burning the paint etc.
